Exciting Times
Kudos to the Baltimore Jewish Times on a superb cover story on March 30, "Passover, My Way." Yasher Koach to the families featured, and to B'nai Israel for once again offering programming for young Jewish adults living and working downtown.
Programs like these were offered from 2002-2005 to large audiences and included lectures, picnics and trips, and with the steady hand of Seth Rosenberg and a committed corps of volunteers, they are sure to continue.
Now, when Hillel/graduate programs or local shuls are off, we as young adults have a place to call home. The article mentions that I am active in "singles" groups, and that is partially true. However, it is helping friends and peers who are single, couple or young marrieds in the bigger picture become more active in the "young adult" community.
With my own co-chair, Laura Gottlieb, who is married, we mobilize young adults, from those newly out of college to those in their 30s monthly for kosher dinners in local restaurants, parties in conjunction with friends, and a warm Chesed project cheering seniors, dog and kids in tow, in a local retirement home under the auspices of a well-known Jewish agency.
We call and e-mail our friends to go to other local young adult shul functions and dinners, and even post numerous events to Jewishyoung adults.com , and this very weekend are organizing a large card tournament debuting the Jewish version of the hit "Apples to Apples" on Sunday at Wegman's. Another of our attendees, Mike Rosner, has founded Chainections.com , the new home and place of record of Jewish and community affairs for our population.
It's a great feeling to see efforts succeed, organized for and run entirely and ably by good friends ages 22-39, the next generation of lay leadership for Jewish Baltimore. All young Jews should check this out!
